Why MaleMatters
The Boy Crisis Nobody's Talking About
Boys are an invaluable and integral part of our society — carrying strengths and abilities that deserve to be nurtured, not ignored. For the past four years, our team has worked directly with young boys across communities in Nigeria, and one thing is clear: boys need access to the truth about who they are and what they're capable of, free from the weight of negative societal expectations.
In too many communities, boys grow up with a narrow view of what success looks like. Without visible role models — men who have built honest, thriving lives through their skills and talents — some come to believe that cyber fraud or drug dealing are the only routes to money and respect. This isn't a character flaw. It's a failure of access: to mentors, to information, and to spaces where boys are allowed to dream bigger.
